Creating Configuration Items

Depending on your particular use cases, you may wish to create Configuration Items on a case by case basis such as Environments, Users, or Computers. This can be achieved with a combination of Templates and Dynamic Data.

Creating a Configuration Item Template

The Cireson Portal (v11.2.1+) supports a number of Templates out of the box for items such as:

  • Builds
  • Computer
  • Domain User
  • Environment
  • Printer
  • Software Items/Update

But you are of course free to add and create your own. To do so,  create a Template in the Service Manager Console just as you would for a Work Item, but instead choose a Configuration Item class. In this case, we've created a Management Pack that only stores Configuration Item templates.

Once you've filled out the Template to your desired specification, we can head back into the portal.

Enabling Creation for Configuration Items

Navigate into Dynamic Data and find the class of Configuration Item you created a Template for previously. If you don't see the Class you'll need to add it. Then click on Edit and check the "Enable Create" checkbox.

Once you've made your decision, saved, and the platform has been rebuilt from the New Drawer in the portal - Analysts and Administrators can now create the specified Configuration Item:
