User Guide: Knowledge Homepage

The new Knowledge Base homepage offers a more comprehensive way to search and browse your Knowledge Articles.

Homepage

The homepage is comprised of a few components. At the top there is a simplified advanced search bar. Below the search there are four lists of articles:

  • Featured - Based on the articles popularity index.
  • Popular - Based on the number of views.
  • Recently Added - Shows the newest articles.
  • Top Rated - Based off of the average rating of the article.

On the right side panel there is a tree of all your Article Categories, including those that do not have any articles associated with them yet. Clicking the category text will show you all articles in that category as well as any articles in child categories if applicable. Clicking the arrow icon will expand category node to display the child categories without loading the articles.

Search articles by text and optional filters

Searching can be done as easily as typing in your query and pressing enter (or clicking the magnifying glass button).

You can also filter your search down to specific Article Categories and Article Types to narrow down your results. Clicking 'Filter Search By' will toggle the drawer where you can select multiple Categories and/or Types:

The below image shows a search for 'Knowledge Base' filtered to only show results that are in the 'Cireson Portal' Category and are in the 'User Guide' Type:

The results for a simple or filtered search display the same. The black icon to the left of the title will open the article in a new tab. Clicking the title opens it in the same tab as does clicking the 'Read More' link. Below the title you will see the metadata on the article: rating, views, and when it was last updated. Below the metadata the article abstract is displayed.

Browsing articles by category

Browsing articles by category gives you a useful alternative to searching, especially if you are unsure what you are looking for. The below image highlights some key features while browsing to give you a better and more intuitive experience.

You will see navigation breadcrumbs appear above the search bar as well as the current category selection emphasized in the category tree on the right. Both serve to give you a sense of location while browsing and multiple places to navigate around other categories.

The article results are the same as the search results with the addition of Category Breadcrumbs added to the metadata:

The image above shows that this article is in the category 'HTML Knowledge Base', which is a child of 'Lync App' which is a child of the selected Category 'Cireson Portal'.  Clicking the breadcrumb links here will interact with the category tree and take you to the category you clicked.
