Overview
ConfigMgr Asset Intelligence collects specifically defined classes of client data and records the results to the ConfigMgr database. Some of this collected data is used by the Configuration Manager Connector to report in to the SCSM database. This data is used by the Cireson Asset Management solution workflows to generate asset data and keep it up to date.Â
Asset Intelligence is enabled by default within ConfigMgr, however the Cireson Asset Management solution requires additional inventory classes to be collected from ConfigMgr clients to provide full functionality.

Enable Collection of Additional Inventory Classes
ConfigMgr Asset intelligence works by collecting specified WMI classes from clients and adding it to ConfigMgr site database.Â
To verify or edit the WMI classes that ConfigMgr Asset Intelligence collects:Â
- Within the ConfigMgr console, select the Assets and Compliance workspace
- Select the Asset Intelligence node
- Click Edit Inventory Classes, located in the Home tab of the ribbon at the top of the screenÂ
The Edit Inventory Classes dialog box allows administrators to select the Asset Inventory classes to collect from clients to allow reporting.Â
A minimum of the following ConfigMgr Asset Intelligence classes must be enabled (Screenshot above shows default settings):
- SMS_Installed Software
- SMS_SystemConsoleUsage
- SMS_SystemConsoleUser
- SoftwareLicensingService
- SoftwareLicensingProduct
NOTE: It is recommended by Cireson to NEVER enable SMS_InstalledExecutable or SMS_SoftwareShortcut, as these classes are not useful and can increase the size of the database considerably. If there is business reason for creating customized reports for these classes, then these settings may be required. There are no reports that utilize these classes by default in Configuration Manager.Â
Verify ConfigMgr Asset Intelligence
To verify that ConfigMgr Asset Intelligence is collecting valid data:Â
- Within the ConfigMgr console select the Assets and Compliance workspace
- Select the Asset Intelligence nodeÂ
Within the Asset Intelligence dashboard, verify that the number of assets detected in the environment is greater than 0. This verifies that software asset information is being collected and is available for reporting or import into SCSM.Â
